March Update
I spent March in the village of Mudio which we’d selected for our Pilot Village as the start of a large research program. We assessed the whole population of 1,800 people for the presence of diseases including arthritis and osteoporosis. It was hot dusty work with the early afternoon temperatures soaring to nearly 40 C. Byt Ribby, Shayo and Dylan, our three MRES students, stuck to their task ably abetted by Nateiya and her band of Tanzanian Doctors and Nurses, including Anton and Janet. Not to mention our village entrepreneur and our translator. We collected really essential data on the baseline prevalence and mix of disease that will inform the main project starting in October. Meantime, the plan to develop a clinical service for patients with these diseases is underway…..
