Since the Covid-19 pandemic began, I have had to come home to the UK and leave my African project work behind. However, we have continued to support all the people in each of the projects and have actually reached out to support others in need. Famine has struck Africa as a result of the lockdowns imposed and the rising costs of food and transport. Together with the help of our friends and sponsors, we have  raised funds to feed many poor people and families who would otherwise have struggled to survive. I have been working fulltime on an acute medical ward in the NE of England during these three months and the money we’re raising is channelled straight back to Africa to support these initiatives. We’ve just heard that we may be able to resume some of the field work in Tanzania later this summer  which would be great, although many of the samples we’ve collected remain locked in university labs awaiting analysis!
