Volunteer

We were delighted to have had our first non-medical volunteer in spring 2019, when Sandra joined us for a month to work in two of the charity programs we support. She worked with both Anold and with Theo, and her blog on her experiences is worth a read. There is also a happy ending to this particular story! In summer Louisa and Anna joined us for a few days and helped both with Anold and in the Hospital at KCMC. Subsequently Laura came for two weeks with me to Kenya and Uganda, while I also had 8 medical students in the summer of both 2018 and 2019 doing their electives. Alongside this, we’ve had several junior doctors work with us in autumn 2017-2019, and six more students in the spring of 2019. Louisa and I were joined by Catherine for our trip to Zambia in spring 2022. Karen and Aileen came to Zanzibar with me in June 2022 and Carolyn and Jake came to Kenya in August of 2022. In the summer of 2023, students from Northumbria came to work with me in Zanzibar. We invite volunteers of all ages to join us, again for periods ranging from a week up to three months. We have a range of commitments from purely medical work in the Hospitals and Community Clinics, through to humanitarian and charitable projects across East Africa. There is a separate section devoted to each of these. We can help with organising flights and transport, and plan an itinerary to suit all tastes. We recommend combining a trip to volunteer or study with the chance to explore a little of the African countryside.

Donate

All of our projects are entirely funded by generous donations from the public, so whether you’d like to donate to a particular project or make a general donation that we can send to the project most in need, every small amount can help us a great deal.
